For parents
Horizon Recovery provides mental health and substance use treatment designed specifically for teens. Care ranges from 24-hour residential support to ongoing outpatient therapy.
Here is what families should know:
Residential treatment, PHP, IOP, and outpatient therapy are available.
Programs operate in Peoria, Glendale, Buckeye, and North Phoenix.
The environment and clinical approach are built around adolescent development.
Parents participate in treatment planning and family therapy.
Education services help teens remain connected to school.
Mental health and substance use concerns can be treated together.
Your family does not need to choose a level of care alone. A clinical assessment helps determine where your teen can receive enough support without placing them in a more restrictive setting than necessary.
Finding the right fit
The right level depends on safety, symptom severity, and the amount of support your teen needs between therapy sessions. Residential treatment may be appropriate when your teen cannot function safely at home. It may also help when substance use or repeated crises continue despite outpatient care.
PHP provides full treatment days without 24-hour residential care. IOP offers several treatment sessions each week while teens remain involved in home and school. Traditional outpatient therapy may be appropriate when symptoms are stable and your teen can use coping skills with less frequent support.
When your teen cannot function safely at home, or crises continue despite outpatient care.
Full days of treatment without 24-hour residential care.
Structured care while your teen stays involved in home and school.
When symptoms are stable and your teen can use coping skills with less frequent support.
Horizon offers a continuum of care so teens can move between programs without starting over with an entirely new treatment system. Recommendations are based on clinical needs rather than a fixed sequence. Some teens enter residential care and gradually step down. Others begin with IOP or outpatient therapy. The starting point should reflect what is happening now.

Locations
Horizon Recovery operates six Phoenix-area treatment locations. Each site serves a different role within the continuum of care.
Our Arizona locations include:
Our admissions team can explain which locations provide the recommended program. Families outside the Phoenix area can also discuss travel and transition planning.
Conditions
Teen behavior rarely fits neatly into one category. Teen depression can appear as anger. Anxiety may look like avoidance or school refusal. Substance use may be an attempt to manage trauma or emotional pain.
Horizon treats adolescent mental health conditions, addictive disorders, and dual-diagnosis concerns. This includes depression, anxiety, trauma disorders, ADHD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, self-harm, or substance use. A comprehensive assessment helps identify what is driving the visible behavior.

Approach
Treatment plans combine evidence-based clinical care with services that support development and daily functioning. Depending on your teen’s needs, care may include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, individual counseling, or medication management.
Family therapy and academic support are also part of the larger treatment model.
Holistic services may include expressive art activities, music, wellness and fitness, and animal-assisted activities.
Qualifying residential clients may participate in the Neuro Program, which uses QEEG brain mapping and neurofeedback protocols.
Transparency
Horizon publishes outcomes from its own clinical records. The program uses validated measures to track emotional symptoms and anxiety or depression. It also monitors coping and adaptive skills. Results are presented with sample sizes and methodology rather than a single promotional percentage.
These records are not a randomized research study, and no result is guaranteed for an individual teen. They do show families what Horizon measures and where the current data have limitations. Parents can review the complete Horizon Recovery treatment outcomes before making a decision.
What we measure
A parent’s checklist
Every program can sound reassuring during an admissions call. Parents should ask questions that reveal what daily care actually looks like and how the program evaluates its work.
Questions worth asking each treatment center include:
Ask these questions of Horizon, too.A trustworthy program should be willing to explain its strengths and limitations in plain language.
Insurance & cost
The cost of treatment depends on the level of care, duration, and insurance plan. Residential care and PHP are commonly billed by the day. IOP or outpatient care may be billed by the session or treatment day.
Horizon works with many major insurance providers. The admissions team can verify benefits and explain expected costs before your family makes a decision. They can also discuss prior authorization or continued-stay reviews. Learn more about how adolescent treatment is paid for.
Next step
You do not need a diagnosis or a complete treatment plan before calling. Begin with what you are seeing. Tell the admissions team what has changed at home, at school, or in your teen’s relationships.
The team will ask questions about safety and previous treatment. They will also explain which program may be appropriate. If Horizon is not the right fit, that conversation can still help you understand what kind of support to seek next.
Coverage depends on your plan. We verify your benefits before admission and put the estimate in writing, so your responsibility is stated before the first day.

This is Length varies according to the level of care and the teen’s progress. Residential treatment often lasts 30 to 90 days. PHP or IOP may continue for several weeks or months. Some teens step down through multiple programs before transitioning to outpatient therapy.handled on a case-by-case basis. Most often Horizon is willing to accept what the plan pays as reimbursement. Each case is unique and every potential client is evaluated and the maximum financial liability the client may face is outlined and written down in a good faith estimate prior to admission.
The moral of the story, we accept nearly all Aetna policies, unless the specific plan has limitations. We will not know the specifics or what those limitations may be without running a verification of benefits and seeking prior authorization. We encourage every client to contact us to allow us to pull the specifics of the plan so we can discuss what that client’s specific scenario is.
